Family of missing Quebec girl Cedrika Provencher launch foundation
TROIS-RIVIERES ? Three years after young Cedrika Provencher disappeared, the family of the Quebec girl launched a foundation Tuesday to help other families looking for missing children.
The nine-year-old vanished on July 31, 2007, outside her Trois-Rivieres home, midway between Montreal and Quebec City.
A $170,000 reward for information leading to her whereabouts yielded no results.
The girl's grandfather, Henri Provencher, said Tuesday the foundation aims to help families grappling with a similar ordeal by offering support and developing new intervention methods.
"When a child is kidnapped, we need to act swiftly and efficiently," said Provencher.
"Our family went through this nightmare alone, with little support from the authorities and we don't want any other family to go through the same thing," he added.
The foundation is also looking for volunteers and donations to provide respite care to families of missing children.
