Calgary mother has made an emotional appeal for the return of her son, who police believe was abducted by his father a year ago and taken to India.
On Tuesday, Calgary police announced that a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Harpreet Singh Arora for abduction without consent.
"This past year has been the most difficult and painful in my life," said Mona Gill, the boy's mother.
"I cannot have imagined how much pain and longing I could feel until my child is abducted. I feel helpless, lost and desperate to get him back. I cannot stop trying to live the days I had with Shael. It breaks my heart not being able to see him, hear him or hold him."
Arora took their son Shael Ranbir Singh Arora on a trip to Vancouver from May 12 to 16, 2010.
At the time of the trip he was separated from Gill, who had consented to the trip. The father and son arrived in Mumbai, India, on May 24, 2010, but police don't have any idea where they are today. The boys is now 2 ½ years old.
"No calls, emails, photos, text messages leave me constantly worrying and imagining how he is and how much he must have grown up," said Gill. "Shael is the joy in my day and the love in my heart and I will never be whole without him."
The RCMP and Interpol are looking for the father, also known as Dimpy, and are checking with his associates in Calgary, Vancouver, Hong Kong, Singapore and India.
Gill appealed to Arora, his friends and family, and anyone else who has information to help her find her son.
"Nothing else matters right now, except that a mother is allowed to see her son. Shael should not have to grow up without me, his mom," she said.
